1941
NAPL joins other associations in The Graphic Arts Advisory Council.
1945
William J. Stevens, who becomes second NAPL CEO in 1961, joins NAPL staff.
1946
NAPL's Wage Scale Contract Program launches, establishing NAPL as leader in labor relations.
1947

Soderstrom leads efforts to clarify AFL/CIO jurisdictional problems in printing industry union plants.

NAPL membership grows to 325 firms.

NAPL convention program typeset by Intertype Corp.'s Footsetter, new "cold type" alternative to hot metal.

1948

New circular logo featuring camera lens in center debuts (retired in 1971).

Association leases space for new headquarters in New York City's Longacre House.

NAPL hires first fulltime cost analyst, starting long history of preeminence in management and financial consulting.

NAPL regarded as official management negotiator for member company union contracts.

Soderstrom takes NAPL "on the road" for member meetings in 13 U.S. cities.

1949
Soderstrom goes to court to defend Printing Trade Customs unique to photo-lithographers.
